The first choice you have is whether to duck at trick one. Given that South's 1NT shows 15-17 points partner will have between four and six points, so he will certainly have an entry somewhere. On this lead South will be likely to hold spadeAJxx, so it is better technique to play low at trick one in an attempt to lure South into taking spadeJ while partner has another spade left - which he will then be able to lead if gains the lead early in the hand.

South wins spadeJ and now leads club5 to the partner's eight and dummy's queen.
