Discipline!! South was not to be denied and bid 5spade. I felt able to double and, after the heartA lead, North (the wife) tabled her cards silently but still managed to eloquently communicate her opinion of hubby's bidding. As red suits were lead at every opportunity South eventually ran out of trumps and made just 6 tricks for 1100 to us. BUT - was this a good result? 6diamond is a make unless North finds a heart lead, but 6heart by East may or may not make (best defence I think always beats it**) if an inspired declarer plays for a 5-0 trump break from the start.

**Any double dummy analysts out there?
19/03/2026: Well the DDA shows that 6diamond, 6heart and 6NT are all makeable from the East side.
