East should have done better. Instead of exiting with a diamond, he should have tried a trump. Although the spades can be ruffed out as before, there is no entry back to the North hand and eventually East makes a trump trick.

Any comments?

Although South could get home by not drawing any trumps before ruffing spades, that is an unreasonable line to adopt. Much better to ruff spades out immediately after finding the 5-0 trump break. Either that or lead a small diamond from dummy. In these cases South always has a vital entry to dummy to draw trumps.
