Both Neil Silverman, who was declaring 7diamond, and his counterpart in 6diamond in the other room, decided to ruff in the dummy. You can imagine how Silverman must have felt on seeing East show out on diamondA at trick two, guaranteeing a trump loser. It was crazy to ruff at trick one - if the trumps are 3-1 then the contract is cold: five trumps, three spades, two hearts, two clubs and a heart ruff. If the trumps were 4-0, as at the table, there were additional chances of a squeeze or club finesse, and declarer must have aged a little on seeing East's clubQ. Both declarers came to 12 tricks but poor Silverman's team lost 16 IMPs instead of gaining 13.

They lost the match by 15.
