Ron Sukoneck plonked diamondK on the table - a Merrimac coup at the first trick! How did he work that one out? Well, South would have a longish club suit but not much in the majors - he hadn't supported either. If the clubs represented a threat then the diamonds would be likely to be the communication route to them, and so Sukoneck went for the jugular by attacking South's likely diamondA. Declarer plays diamondQ from dummy and your king holds the trick.
