This time there is a little more excuse for bidding 2diamond, for partner has denied a spade suit. Personally I cannot see much that is too culpable with passing, but that bidding would not have produced the contract at the table. Anyway 2diamond hugely improved West's hand and East was soon playing in 5diamond on a spade lead.
