I'm a simple soul, and having quite a reasonable diamond suit and enough firepower to show spades also, my personal choice would be for 2diamond, but at the table a Sputnik double was chosen - a bid also favoured by my friend. This seemed to get the job done OK when North-South reached the excellent 5diamond.

How do you play on ace and another heart, when East wins the king and switched to a small spade.
