Pat Davies judged the distribution perfectly when she won heartA, played a diamond to diamondJ and ruffed spade10 with diamondK. She then cashed clubQ to ditch her losing heart, ruffed a heart to hand and claimed. It would have been easy to be seduced by the other possibility of a finding a two-two trump break.

It is easy to blame Auken for not switching to a heart at trick two, but her partner might have held a singleton - after all it would be routine for declarer to false-card at trick one with a holding of club1084.
