This lead does not bode well, for if West's lead is a true card from a doubleton, then the diamonds cannot be relied on for more than two quick tricks. Goren won diamondA and crossed to hand with a spade to lead a heart to the jack. When that passed off peacefully he cashed four clubs, noting East's discard of a spade. diamondA and the other top spades came next, so when spadeJ failed to appear and East ditched a heart he simply exited with spade10 and waited for West to lead a heart away from heartK.

It strikes me that Goren could also have made his contract in another way .......
