At the table North made the lazy bid of 3NT. My correspondent sat East, and thinking that North would have a better diamond suit, led a spade. That was 660 to North-South. North should have at least taken his time with 3diamond, which may have led to the fair 6club slam. South would have jumped to 5club and North might have judged to bid a sporting one for the road.
