After East passes, do you bid on the South hand at this vulnerability? I suppose it depends on your system, but playing weak twos I would have opened 2, but not 3 with or without the weak two in my armoury.

Anyway, let's say you pass, West opens 1, partner passes, East bids 1 and now ..
