On the rare occasions when I sit down to play in one of the ever popular Simultaneous-let's-collect-some-master-points-Pairs competitions, I guess that I am like everyone else in suspecting that the trumps will break nine-nil on every other hand. Of course my fears, and those of everyone else, are totally unjustified because the organisers usually weed out deals where the trump breaks are worse than eight-one.

I first saw today's hand when it was used in our annual county event, although it had appeared earlier in a high standard teams event.
