Let's assume that Rodwell led a diamond. Declarer ruffs the opening lead and sees that the clubs must yield five tricks to enable all dummy's losing hearts to be discarded. With North also having disclosed diamond length, he is likely to be short in spades, so declarer leads spadeK from hand. Imagine South wins and switches to a heart. heartA is played and diamondK led for a further ruffing finesse against diamondA. A trump finesse of spade7 follows and South's last trump drawn. The kind club break ensures East wraps up a "straightforward" slam.

Is that how it happened? I doubt it! Rodwell will have been listening to the bidding and, knowing East to be void in diamonds, would lead a heart! Is there a translator anywhere who can confirm this?
