No doubt the vast majority would punt 3NT and on this particular hand it would be the correct decision. Nevertheless, it would be relatively simple to construct a hand where 3NT would be better played by North. For instance, imagine North's spades were spadeQx.

On the other hand, if South bids spades or clubs on the second round might not North leap to 4heart holding something like spadexxheartK10xdiamondAK109xxclubKx?
