Our second North liked the look of his heart suit and decided that, because of partner's admitted values, he could allow the bidding to develop naturally. He therefore bid 2heart. A red suit bidding competition ended when North doubled West's 5diamond and led clubA. The sight of dummy meagre values must have been a happy moment for West who ruffed the opening lead and played a spade. South went in with spadeK so West won and cashed diamondA. Twelve tricks, East-West +950 and a swing of 17 IMPs!
