Paul's commentary told of the story at the table when declarer (in a contract of 4spade) won heart10 and tried to ruff a second club. West over-ruffed with spade6, cashed spadeA and exited with a diamond. Declarer now misjudged the situation and went off, but I wonder what would have happened if North had overtaken diamondQ with diamondA and continued with top hearts.

Eventually West's ace is ruffed out, and declarer draws another round of trumps, but if West has not retained spade2 at this stage declarer can exit with spade7 to West's eight!!!! This totally unexpected winner has end-played West into leading a red card, resuscitating dummy and ensuring that 4spade comes home!
