With hearts eliminated for me, it seemed a good idea before broaching trumps to unblock the diamonds to prepare for an end-play, so diamondAK were cashed and a small spade led. South's spade9 was ducked and North won. She correctly exited with a heart, ruffed in dummy as I threw a club. Dummy was now down to one trump, and although there were nine winners I could not be sure of getting back to dummy with clubK, so I cashed the diamondQ and exited with spadeQ. South won spadeA and led clubJ. North completed her excellent defence by rising with clubA and leading diamondJ to promote South's spade10.

When I found that South had started with clubJ10 alone, I decided it was not my favourite hand of the year. 4spade doubled was minus two. E-W -300.
