Rose made the aggressive, yet perfectly justifiable, bid of 3NT - after all, on a spade lead he could virtually underwrite eight tricks. On hearing Svarc's double Sheehan removed to 4club, knowing that the 3NT bid was likely to be based on a long, solid club suit. Svarc's 4spade closed the bidding.
