The honest answer is that I don't know! As you can see, to play in 4spade when there is fair chance of thirteen tricks is extremely disappointing, but quite what South can legitimately muster up that would give him and his partner a good chance of bidding the slam, it is difficult to see.

Perhaps the best slam invitational move, as suggested by His Royal Majestic Personage himself, would be to bid a direct 6spade! This was indeed a sensible suggestion, but I suspect the fact that it was made when he could see all four hands while scoring up made the decision slightly easier.
