North started by playing ace and another trump. When East proved to have spadeK982 two trump losers were confirmed and it all boiled down to the play of the club suit. East exited with spade9 at trick four - won by North's ten, and when a small club was played from the dummy, East rose with clubA to draw the last two trumps with spade8. Having won East's heart exit heartK, another small club was led from dummy and declarer had reached the crossroads. After fully three minutes contemplation, he inserted clubJ to bring home his game. Well judged!

On this hand I was West and had failed to find the likely killing lead of a club. The inevitable club continuation means that West gets a ruff and switches to heartQ. Declarer must play West specifically to hold two black singletons to get home, thereby enabling him to restrict East's spade winners to one..
