Personally, I think it is a big mistake to punt 6NT on this type of hand. Your points are scattered and you have no long suit. No, I would definitely favour a consultation with partner - if he has a bare 20 count you will end with bushels of match points/IMPs by bidding a quantative 4NT and merely inviting him to go on, which he should pass with South's cards.

Of course, if our adopted North had been of like mind then there would be no story - but no doubt you have already guessed that.
