If West starts with clubQ10753, on seeing the clubA9 from partner he will suspect declarer of holding clubKJ8x, and switch accordingly! Nevertheless, most of the expert defenders seemed to pass the exam without any problems, and cashed a quick five clubs for one off.

The one unsuccessful defence could hardly be blamed, however, for their opponents bid accurately to 5diamond, and although there was a trump loser the favourable heart break meant +600 for them.
