Partner has not led this card from QJ105(x), so you can tell that declarer has at least one honour. Our major suit holdings are particularly disheartening and it looks like we may have to win five quick minor tricks to beat this contract. If declarer has Q10x(x) we can give ourselves a better chance of bagging some tricks by winning the first trick and underleading the other honour. But with which card should you win the opening trick? To win with the ace denies the king, and this is the better deceptive ploy.

What about the card to return? The expert Easts were divided - some led the club2 and some the technically correct club9, but might not this latter card be a double edged sword - could not partner be deceived!?
