This is horrendous isn't it. You're vulnerable and partner's suits are no doubt diamonds and spades. If that is true, what would give you the best chance of minimizing your loss, for surely -800/1100 is just around the corner.... South decided that the best way to bale out was to do so at the earliest opportunity, so he passed! Whether this was a good idea I leave to your better judgement.
