If you attack diamonds you will be held to a maximum of eight tricks - two spades, three hearts and three diamonds. So it must be right to attack clubs, but you should do so in a way which has the best chance of success when they break unfavourably. To lead clubQ or clubJ from hand will allow East two tricks if he started with clubA10xx, but if you lead a small club from the dummy towards hand he will be unable to fly in with the Ace without surrendering four club tricks. When the club trick is in the bag, you can revert to diamonds to guarantee your three tricks in that suit.

If West started with clubA10xx you're always assured of success, but if East started with clubA10852 and flies in with the ace, there was nothing you could do.
