There are also interesting possibilities in 5 - although I can barely imagine a plausible sequence to get there! After A
lead and a ruffing finesse against South, declarer would face the prospect of playing the spade suit for four tricks to allow for a discard of the losing heart. If North reads East for ten red cards and has the confidence to play West for both missing spade honours, this can be done by leading
98 through West. Not easy!!
