South's 3club was a sensible, practical bid. You may well disagree, as these days it is frowned upon to force without some support for partner's suit, but I am with South. If a player forces despite a lack of support, as in this case, it must mean he has a very powerful suit in addition to the other general point-count requirements for a jump-shift. (I'll quickly gloss over the fact that he only had 13 points).

At the other tables, our other pair also languished in 3NT, but the opposition bid 6club and 6NT for a 16 IMP swing.
