CJ naturally inserted clubJ which brought forth the Ace from East. On the return of a club, declarer won in dummy and led a small heart. East won, and returned another heart won with heartA. By ruffing two low clubs in hand and playing out diamond winners, the only further trick lost was to the heartQ.

Of course, East could, and should, have defeated the contact by returning a spade at trick two. This result is typical of modern bridge at the sharp end. Aggressive, hair-raising , yes .. But who enjoys passing all the time?
