You can see that the contract makes quite easily on any other lead than a trump. A heart gives South a free finesse, so both diamond losers go away, whereas a diamond lead clears up that suit immediately. As for the singleton club, South wins in hand and draws three trumps ending in dummy. heartA is cashed for a diamond discard, and the club9 is led for a repeatable finesse.

On the trump lead, however, South has to revert to an almost double-dummy line to be successful ..
