I was amused by David Burns self-deprecating article in the recent English Bridge Union magazine. He was modestly describing the English team in the Maastricht Olympiad, of which he was a member, as a collection of nobodies. The teams produced a magnificent and consistent display to finish fourth - only missing out in the semi final against the eventual winners, Italy.

What a pleasure to see our team doing so well. The team of Burns, Brian Callaghan, Colin Simpson, Joe Fawcett, Glyn Liggins and Gunnar Hallberg did themselves and England proud.
