Double dummy analyser: makeable contracts
West North East South
2spade 2NT*
Dble~ Pass Pass Pass

* Loony Bid 1
~ Loony Bid 2

This deal occurred in a very recent county match. At one table East opened with a weak 2spade and South bid 2NT which showed a balanced 16-18. Fair enough. This was doubled by West (loony bid 1) followed by Pass (loony bid 2), Pass, Pass. West was not pushed to find a lead and that was E-W plus 800.

Quite why West did not Pass and look bored, I don't know. If I had been West and doubled on this hand, North would deduce that the only likely explanation for the double was a strong club suit. He would therefore know that all South's points were working and would find the master bid of 5diamond.

Would have served me right too!
