At the table our adopted West ditched a spade and that was effectively declarer's ninth trick.

At one of the other tables, the Brazilian declarer ducked both the first clubs, and West did extremely well to pitch hearts. But the declarer deduced that because West had discarded from a bid suit, he must be protecting the others. Backing his judgment, he won the third club, unblocked the spadeAK and followed with ace and another diamond, ducked to West. The long diamond was declarer's ninth trick. Well played indeed.
