The diagram shows declarer and dummy after trick three. Cohen returned to hand with K and duly took the diamond finesse. East won with the king and West cashed two spade winners - giving dummy a discard problem. Not wishing to sacrifice any chances in the red suits, Cohen ditched a small club from dummy, but when West continued with the J declarer had a communication predicament to which there was no solution, destined to be marooned from a winner.
