I'm grateful to my old Nottinghamshire team-mate, Mark Horton, who sent me today's hand. I remember Mark as one of the few people to have played both bridge and chess at international level, but Mark has since moved away from the provincial delights of Nottingham and is now the Editor of the prestigious Bridge Magazine.
The magazine is still going strong after all these years, and the contents cover an eclectic mix of articles, reports and puzzles gleaned from all over the world and appealing to a wide range of abilities. While I'm on the subject, the standard of play around the world seems to be frighteningly high these days. It seems much easier to write about the exploits of others than to compete with them!!!
