As is often the case in bridge, postponing the vital decision until as late as possible is the right thing to do. After winning the trump in hand you should decide that it is right to broach the hearts last. After all, if the defence attack hearts, it will solve all your problems.

If you are intending to play hearts last, then the other suits must come first, so win the opening lead and immediately play a spade from hand. You will be creating a situation where can you ruff dummy's spades in your hand. Say the oppo win and play another trump (E-W trumps break 2-2). This time you win in dummy and ruff a spade. Cross over to a high diamond and ruff the last spade. Cash the ace and the other diamond winner, ending in dummy.
