At the table,Steve found the excellent practical shot of 6diamond, possibly intending to bid 7diamond over any sacrifice bid by West. As it happened, West did not enter the bidding at the six level, and would you blame him for not finding the lead of a club? Although 6club can be always be made, it would have taken a superhuman effort by South to resist from bidding a solid nine card suit!

Assuming that West does not find the club lead there is a profitable sacrifice aganst 6diamond. East-West lose two spades, two hearts and a diamond in 6spade doubled, losing 1100 as opposed to the 1370 in 6club by North-South. 6heart is not so good, for the defence can lead clubs at every available opportunity.
