Paradoxically, although it can often be difficult to reach the holy grail in the bidding, the play in 7 No Trumps is often a mind numbingly boring affair, where you can either claim about 41 tricks after trick 1, or see 12 tricks with scant hope of another.

Potential 7NT deals that don't fall into either of these categories often leave little scope for alternative lines of play. After all, it's not much use executing an elegant strip-squeeze, throw-in and end-play when all 13 tricks are required.
