Realising that the contract would be cold if the spades broke 3-2, Anthony took the necessary precautions to cater for an unkind trump break by ruffing a diamond in hand at trick two. Two rounds of trumps ending in dummy showed that East had begun with spadeJ763, so after cashing clubAK and three top hearts a second diamond ruff followed, reducing declarer to the same number of trumps as East. South simply exited with his last club and, with East holding spadeJ7, declarer took the last two tricks with spadeQ10. Very nice indeed!
