The winning bid is 6NT, and it would be even if North had both missing diamond honours!! Imagine South leads 8, so declarer climbs with
A and cashes
KJ. When North shows out declarer simply rattles off the five spades to catch South in a strip squeeze. With
K marked on the bidding, if South retains all the missing hearts West puts him on lead by playing ace and queen of clubs. A heart into
AQ9 yields the contract. I'd like to be able to say that failing to bid 6NT was the worst of my perpetrations, but unfortunately not. Those more gruemsome efforts can wait for another day.
