No, that line of thinking isn't very sensible, is it? Surely it must be right to play trumps first. Nevertheless declarer led spadeQ from the dummy and West knew what to do next. Declarer eventually was a careless three light.

After a normal trump to the queen, hoping for heartKxx or heartKx with East, South cashes the ace and has the luxury of trying for an overtrick.
