That spade play was particularly deceptive for surely declarer must have spadeK to play like that, thus making it more likely that East had the singleton heartA. Eventually she played low so South won heartQ drew the last trump. A few tricks later the diamond finesse gave declarer a sensational ten tricks and a shared top.
