A club lead is the only lead to beat the contract. Declarer can win or duck, but the defence are in the driving seat to make two clubs, diamondA and an eventual spade trick.

The play was identical at both tables. West led a spade and declarer won to play diamondK. West took the ace and continued spades so South unblocked spadeJ, won the club return and drew trumps. spade10 was the vital entry to the to diamond winners and both of South's club losers disappeared.
