Why had North led a low spade from four when holding a singleton heart? The answer was that she had a 4-1-4-4 distribution and therefore the finesse was obligatory. Alas West, having done all the hard work, played for the drop and went one down.

It was not all bad news. East played in 6heart in the other room, and that was four down!
