South might have retreated to 2club with five clubs, but at the table West played conservatively by following with the jack and East was compelled to overtake. Although East was able to attack hearts profitably she was eventually thrown in to lead away from diamondK. South made a spade, a club, a heart and three diamonds for one off.

Had West found the crocodile coup of rising with clubK at trick four then the contract would have been three light for a juicy 800.
