South finessed and went two light when a play of clubA would have brought home an overtrick. It's easy to say with hindsight but maybe West would have done more with a void club and East might have been more inclined to double 5club with clubKx.

As you can see, North can defeat 5spade by two tricks. heartA, club switch, heartK and another heart promotes a trump winner for South.
