Last night I trundled up to the club to play in one of the "major" summer tournaments ... a handicap event based on the local winter league's final standings. At least my partner, Simon Stokes, was treating the event with the correct spirit - he'd spent all day in the hospitality tent at an annual cricket festival. I must encourage him to do this more often as his judgement was spot on, even though at our table the card play exactly matched the frequency of cricket ball delivery - about 80 an hour.
