* playing Strong No Trump
~ good hand with heart values

After cashing diamondK to pitch a spade, declarer ruffed a diamond high, drew the last trump and exited with a spade. South was able to win with the queen and exit with a diamond, but by now West was obtaining a good idea of the opposing distributions. It seemed probable that North had four spades, three clubs and at least four diamonds, leaving room for two hearts at most. The odds were therefore at least two to one against North holding heartQ, so after cashing the last trump declarer crossed to heartA and ran heartJ to land his slam and a well earned joint top.
