As it happened, either line would have worked. Devotees of squeezes will note that if the intermediate club honours had been divided then the double squeeze with clubs as the pivot suit would be doomed to failure - eventually East would be squeezed in the black suits before South. On many hands like this - 12 top tricks with several squeeze chances - it is very often possible to make all the required tricks - it's just a question of cashing the winners in the correct order to effect the winning squeeze.

At one table North led clubQ against 7NT and all hope for the defence was dead. Dead that is, until declarer claimed his thirteen top tricks. The defenders were diligent in pointing out that the 3+4+3+2 is only twelve and declarer had to concede minus 50.
