Yesterday's deal, shown left, featured a poor defence against 4heart.You may remember that I failed on two separate occasions to set myself up for a ruff because I was too dozy to notice what was going on. Well, I have been informed by a reliable source (partner) that I failed only on one occasion to set myself up for a ruff. Declarer had won my spade switch at trick two and led a trump. Partner hopped up with heartK and tried to give me the spade ruff to which I was undoubtedly entitled, so ten ticks were now inevitable. While this is excellent news and it means my defence is only half as bad as I thought it was, it also means that I was so dozy that I failed abysmally in taking proper notice of how the play actually went. Does anyone want to become the official 7NoTrumps.com hand recorder - it's a very exciting job .. honestly.
