. . . but now North immediately ruffed a club in dummy and West over-ruffed to return a trump as before. The big difference was that the diamond finesse was still available and that vital extra winner eventually became North's twelfth trick. North won the trump return in dummy, finessed diamondJ, cashed heartQ, diamondK. A club was ruffed, diamondA cashed and a diamond ruffed in hand. There was still heartA available for one more ruff in dummy and North had made his slam.
